The Washburn Student Film and Video Association is a student model of the University Film and Video Association, a national organization. WSFVA is designed to give students an opportunity to enhance studies in digital film and video through collaborative creative projects, networking with local filmmakers, involvement in student film festivals, and working on special events that support the study of digital filmmaking. The organization supports trips to regional and national conventions, national film centers, and film workshops. The organization's primary local event is a nationally promoted student film festival held each year in April.

The Society for Collegiate Journalists is the nation’s oldest honorary society for collegiate mass communications. The Society admits as members only those persons who exemplify the dignity, personal freedom, and initiative that we believe are the hallmarks of excellence in collegiate communications – both print and broadcast.
