Ogden Publications
Editorial Assistant

Ogden Publications is looking for an editorial assistant/assistant editor to help produce a trio of specialty enthusiast magazines for collectors of vintage farm equipment and motorcycles.

This is an excellent opportunity for the aspiring magazine journalist to engage in every aspect of magazine publishing, from proofing and copy editing to content and design. The magazines you’ll help produce are crafted for an engaged and passionately enthusiastic audience of collectors of what we affectionately call “old iron.”

Farm Collector magazine shares stories about vintage farm equipment and memorabilia, from the joy of restoring a vintage 1921 Fordson tractor to the hunt for John Deere watch fobs, along with company histories and firsthand remembrances of life on the farm. www.FarmCollector.com

Gas Engine Magazine features stories on the collection, preservation and restoration of vintage farm engines. Once manufactured in the hundreds of thousands to supply power in the days before electricity, these engines are now rare collectibles, highly valued by a unique community of enthusiasts.
www.GasEngineMagazine.com

Motorcycle Classics looks at classic motorcycles from around the world, particularly bikes from the 1960s and 1970s. The fastest growing of the three titles, Motorcycle Classics is sold on newsstands across the U.S. and in the U.K., Australia, New Zealand, and more.
www.MotorcycleClassics.com

Primary duties include but are hardly limited to proofing and copy editing, writing copy when needed, supporting ongoing online activities such as content updating, blogging and SEO, plus other editorial and administrative tasks. Strong organizational and communication skills are a must, as are proven proofing and copy editing skills. Experience with SEO and online content management systems strongly preferred, but we’ll train the right person.

The ideal candidate enjoys preparing content for traditional as well as digital formats, and must enjoy the challenge of working on multiple projects, constantly shifting gears from one set of duties to another: If you don't enjoy doing a little bit of everything – and being constantly asked to learn more – this job's not for you. It’s absolutely critical to be a team player with an easy-going, can-do attitude, and as most of our “offices” are open, you must be comfortable working with people around you at all times.
